5 Easy Steps to Start a Blog

You’ve been thinking about starting your own blog for quite some time now. You know that it’s an excellent way to build an audience, establish yourself as an expert in your industry, and – let’s be honest – make some money from blogging. But you’re just not sure where to start, or how to go about the whole process in general. This step-by-step guide will help you create your own blog with ease and little stress!

Step 1

Come up with a good name for your blog. This can be hard, and you will most likely go through dozens of possible names before settling on one that you like. To pick out your name, think about who your audience is and how they may search for it. Is it brand-focused or keyword-focused?

Step 2

Select your domain name and hosting plan. When choosing a domain name, don’t limit yourself. Whether you own it or not, Google, Yahoo!, Bing, and others are all scouting for great new websites. They use keyword search engines to find names that people may be searching for and trust those brands with their clicks. If you can find a catchy domain name that hasn’t been bought up by someone else yet, claim it!

Step 3

Register Your Domain Name and Set Up Hosting: After you come up with your desired name, you can find a place to purchase it from. The best place is probably GoDaddy because they are one of, if not the largest domain name registrar in the world. If you want more than one website on your account (or don’t want to use GoDaddy), then I would recommend NameCheap.

Step 4

Write First Post & Publish! : Write your first post and publish it! Keep in mind that Google may not rank your content until it has received several backlinks from websites. However, you can still share your work on social media, which is an important part of building traffic. You should also build up an email list so that you can communicate with visitors directly and send out updates as often as you’d like.

Step 5

Go live! Once you’ve finished writing your first post, all that’s left is to go live with it. It might seem scary, but remember: no one will read your stuff if you don’t publish it somewhere.  Make sure you take at least 5 minutes to go over your content before launching it so you can check for spelling and grammar mistakes (you don’t want those written into history). After that, hit publish and share your work on social media. You made it! You published a blog post!
